About Us

Hello Hello Hello!

Welcome to Rakonto’s first-ever podcast series of Karma Pays. We are super-thrilled that you’ve joined us on our maiden voyage.

KARMA PAYS is a sci-fi story that is set a few years into our future, and grabs our current global problems by the horns. We think that science fiction does not have to be filled with doom, gloom and regret. So this story is more of a what-if kind.

If you want to know what genre KARMA PAYS falls into, we like to explain genres in terms of food. So a movie Groundhog Day would be a curious, nutty-flavored bread- wholesome, earthy, perfect for a rainy or a snowy day, and leaves you content. The movie Inception , on the other hand, might be a gastronomical delight; inventive and unpredictable, and a treat for those brain cells. You get the idea? Now. KARMA PAYS is like that stew you are inspired to whip up; It’s simple soulfood, and just what you need.

A bit about Rakonto.  Yup we get it; the quizzical look. What is with the name Rakonto? It’s best described by one of our creators, Bhaskar Sompalli, who says “We at RaKoNtO like to tell stories, just as a Raconteur tells stories.”

Rakonto was born out of Bhaskar’s liking for stories with a personal touch. Many of his essays have aired on National Public Radio’s KQED Perspectives. Prem Menon, his co-creator, loves to write plays and vignettes, just as much as he likes cars.

A few house-keeping tips before we start.

Although Karma Pays is for everyone, it might be best appreciated by anyone between 13 and 101.

The content will unveil itself like a jigsaw puzzle; one with 40 bite-sized short stories. And just like with any puzzle, please expect to find these pieces in random order. But as each piece comes together, the beauty of the puzzle will unfold.

Over the first few episodes, we will introduce our seven main characters and their back-stories. Once you get familiar with them, you will love them as we have.

If you are interested in learning more about us, check out our website or drop us a line at www.rakontopod.com. We get psyched up when we hear from our followers, well-wishers and friends.

That’s about it. Let’s get started.
